WHS Cancelled Meeting Frequently Asked Questions

Why is the WHS 2020 Meeting canceled?
Providing a safe and healthy environment for our members, guests, staff, and our industry partners at our meetings is always the top priority of the WHS. The leadership of the WHS has been closely monitoring the events surrounding the COVID-19 outbreak and due to ongoing concerns, as well as the latest guidance from the CDC and our concern for our patients, colleagues and our hospital communities, the WHS 2020 Meeting scheduled for May 13-16, 2020 at the San Diego Convention Center has been physically cancelled.

SAWC will now be held in Charlotte, NC from July 23-26, 2020, but the meeting situation is being evaluated with great seriousness, following the guidance from the CDC, and prioritizing the health, safety, and well-being of participants above all else. Should the outlook not shift significantly in the coming weeks, SAWC is prepared to deliver its education virtually. HMP, the producer of SAWC, is committed to providing critical wound care education to our global community even in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic, the work to treat, manage, and prevent acute and chronic wounds cannot stop.

Will the 2020 Annual Meeting be postponed until a later date / rescheduled?
For several reasons, including the uncertainty of the impact of COVID-19 on our members, their patients and practices in the coming months, the WHS has decided NOT participate in the rescheduled 2020 Meeting with SAWC that has been postponed to July 23-26, 2020 in Charlotte, NC. This decision was not made lightly and followed significant thoughtful discussion. The next in person meeting for WHS will be held in May 2021 in Dallas, Texas. WHS and SAWC, as well as HMP, the SAWC organizer, remain strong and committed partners. We look forward to continued educational collaboration with SAWC, as well as the return to our full partnership and participation in SAWC Spring in 2021.

Will any sessions be made available virtually?
Yes! The WHS is working on virtual options for oral abstracts sessions that will be available to viewers on the website in the coming months. Stay tuned for more information.

How will the WHS handle registration refunds?
All WHS members who registered for the SAWC Spring/WHS meeting will need to contact SAWC directly to receive a refund. Thank you for your patience as we work with the SAWC Registration Team to accommodate our valued members and guests.

How can I cancel my hotel reservation?
If you made a hotel reservation within the WHS Housing Block at the Omni Hotel or any of the other SAWC housing block, your reservation will be automatically cancelled. No further action is required and you should have received a cancellation email already. If you booked at the hotel outside of the housing block or through a 3rd Party vendor, you must call the hotel directly to cancel your reservation. If you have not yet received a cancellation email, please contact the hotel directly.

What happens if I was scheduled to present an oral abstract?
The WHS will be reaching out directly to all presenting authors to offer the option of a virtual abstract presentation. Recorded presentation will be posted online for viewing. All abstracts will still be published in the WRR Journal. Again, all authors will be contacted with further information very shortly.

What if I was accepted for a poster presentation for display poster?
If you were selected for a poster presentation, your abstract will still be published in the journal supplement if you wish. Additional information and communication will follow to all poster presenters and display posters.
