WHS Committee Self-Nomination Form

Volunteer opportunities! Wound Healing Society member involvement is key to fulfilling our mission to provide a forum for interactive discussions among scientists, physicians, licensed practitioners, industrial representatives, and government agencies. We need your continual support and input to keep improving our Society. The following committees show the diversity and depth of the many volunteer efforts available at WHS. Committees include: Education Membership, Communications, Government Relations, International Relations, Program, Publications, and Research Funding and Promotion. Joining a committee is a great way to begin involvement in the society in order to grow to advanced leadership positions!
Scope of Award
  • Eligibility: Undergraduate, master’s, and professional students that are not enrolled in a combined PhD program will be eligible. Proof of enrollment in an eligible academic program for summer 2026 will be required (Master’s, MD, DDS/DMD, DVM, undergraduate, etc.). Please note: PhD students and combined degree students completing programs requiring long-term research projects, residents, postdocs, and technicians will NOT be eligible.
  • One of these awards is meant to fund research for a student that comes from an underrepresented group in the biomedical research workforce, must also meet eligibility criteria listed above.
  • Duration of research project will be for minimum of 12 weeks.
  • Mentor must be a WHS member
  • Fellow will be expected to apply for membership to the WHS by next annual meeting/abstract submission date (2026 Annual Meeting).
Application Requirements
  1. Project proposal including:
    1. Brief Statement from the Applicant describing career objectives, personal motivation and potential contribution to overall project.
    2. Summary of the proposed research: objective(s), methods and expected outcomes. NOTE: please submit a single PDF. The entire proposal should not exceed 1 page including (a), (b) and figures (font Arial 11 pt., single spaced, 0.5″ margins). References do not count toward the page limit.
  2. Applicant’s resume (with GPA)
  3. A statement from the mentor, signed by both Department Chair and mentor, that award funds will be strictly used for research conducted by the summer fellow. Please note that no letters of recommendation are necessary nor will they be considered.
    1. Also certify, as applicable, that the student comes from an underrepresented group in the biomedical research workforce.
Full application must be submitted by applicant.

Criteria for Selection
  • Fellows: academic achievement, career objectives, personal motivation, potential contribution to overall project
  • Mentor: commitment to undergrad/trainee education and research, significance and quality of the project, adequacy of the project for the summer research fellow, project endorsed by the Department Chair
